Before tellling an interested party about The Sinners,
one must approach the subject of a group of men and their glowing
affection for American music. This is not a biography or an
informational sheet as much as it is a testimony to the fact
that these guys are at their happiest when they are playing,
singing, and immersing themselves in the doing of their art.
The Sinner's story starts in 1964. Erik Nielsen was walking
to his first day of high school and locked eyes on Robert
Johnson. Yeah, really, Robert Johnson. That, in essence, was
the beginning of a relationship between a drummer and a guitar
player. Erik and Bobby played in a high school band and had
some mild success playing at the Avalon Ballroom and around
the San Francisco Bay Area. More importantly, this band was
a 7 piece rhythm and blues band that covered songs by artists
like Otis Redding, James Brown, Booker T and the MGs, and
The Watts 103rd St. Rhythm Band, to name a few.
Like any good B movie, now we have to jump ahead a decade,
or four, and we find our guys playing American music in all
different capacities. Erik Nielsen (drums) got a gig with
The Pointer Sisters through his roommate Greg Adams, who was
playing trumpet with Tower of Power. At that point, he was
hooked. Erik was still playing drums with Queen Ida following
her all around the globe, playing her gigs, chasing her grammy
award winning status for the past 14 years. Erik met Jake
Jacobs in a automobile shop approximately 3 years ago, and
knew his voice was not on the vehicle, but the expression
of a type of music that could be heard by people of all age
groups. Jake's voice is a centerpiece for The Sinners remarkable
rhythm and blues Americana sound. Drake Levin absolutely doesn't
need a hall pass to walk through the Rock N Roll hall of fame.
Gold records? Many. Years and years with Paul Revere and the
Raiders. Simply one of the best rhythm guitar players in the
business for 30+ years, and an understanding of music that
most people can only talk about, but never understand.
As a V8 motor and four wheels power our
American vehicle, two guitars, fender bass, and drums are
the source of so much energy in our business. It's no mistake
that that's what this band is about. Bobby Johnson, aka Bobby
Slidel, is the other guitar in this equation. Vinnie Fornessie
simply one of the most rock solid bass players that ever put
five fingers on 4 strings. Jake Jacobs on vocals and harmonica
is one of the most blessed singers on the West coast. 30 years
proves his voice is timeless. Together, Erik, Bobby, Drake,
Vinnie, and Jake make The Sinners one of the most musically
outstanding groups that you will ever have the pleasure of
listening to. We all go to bed at night hoping that we will
be able to play music for you guys now, and always. One listen,
and you will
understand what we're all about.
